Chatzigiannis Mexis

Two important personalities that they decisively helped with their action in the contribution of Spetses island at the Greek Revolution was Hatzigjannis Mexis and the captain of a fire ship Kosmas Barbatsis.
Hatzigjannis Mexis was born in Spetses island in 1754 the name ' ' Hatzi ''' he took after his visit in ' ' Saint Places ''. He acquired big fortune and fame so in 1818 was named by the Sultan, ' ' Nazjr '' of Spetses. He was first that rebelled in Spetses island, Hydra and Psara in the Revolution. For this aim het allocated above 700.000 golden drachmas. His boats ' ' Epaminondas, ' ' Themistoklis, ' ' Pericles, before the Revolution was declared had been activated in martial energies at the Turkish boats. The heroism that he showed at the duration of the Naval battle of Spetses island that on 8 April 1822, was recognized Greek nation. It continued also afterwards the end of Revolution his political activity, as adviser of territory, senator, and attorney. Died in 1844 and in 1924 his house is historical heirloom and today accommodates the Museum of Spetses island .
